0001The Centre for Innovation, Intellectual Property and Competition, CIIPC, National Law University Delhi, organised WikiEdit2016 as part of its Open Science Project. The two day workshop was held on 11th and 12th November 2016 at National Law University Delhi.

0002The workshop focused on introducing students to open knowledge resources and providing practical training in editing Wikipedia.

Keynote Address

0003The workshop began with a keynote address on Peer Production and Sharing by Mr. Zakir Thomas, Former Director of the Open Source Drug Discovery Project.

Workshop Sessions

0004The participants were introduced to editing guidelines and the process of creating and editing Wikipedia pages. The sessions were conducted and facilitated by Ms. Rohini Lakshané, Wikipedia volunteer and Programme Officer at the Centre for Internet and Society, Bengaluru, and Mr. Tanveer Hasan, Wikipedia volunteer and Programme Officer at the Centre for Internet and Society, Bengaluru.

0005The participants had been briefed about the editing activity before the workshop and therefore came prepared with references for the topics they had selected. During the workshop, they received practical training and worked on editing existing pages and creating new pages.

Objective and Participation

0006The workshop aimed to introduce students to diverse aspects of open knowledge resources and encourage them to move beyond passive consumption of knowledge towards becoming active producers of knowledge.

0007A total of 20 students participated, with a majority being women editors. The workshop also encouraged participants to continue editing Wikipedia with a thematic focus on law and contribute further to the platform.

Conclusion

0008The workshop concluded on 12th November 2016 with an open discussion on the participants' learnings and their future contributions to Wikipedia.
