Headnote

Senior WIPO officers, among them Mr Marco Alemán and Chief Economist Mr Carsten Fink, met the first cohort of the Joint Masters/LL.M.

0001The Centre for Innovation, Intellectual Property and Competition (CIIPC), National Law University Delhi, facilitated an interaction with a distinguished delegation from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks (CGPDTM) on 4 April 2025. The session marked an important engagement for the first cohort of the WIPO-NLUD-IPO Joint Masters/LL.M. in IP Law and Management Programme.

0002The delegation comprised Mr. Marco M. Alemán, Assistant Director General, IP and Innovation Ecosystem Sector; Mr. Carsten Fink, Chief Economist; Mr. David Simmons, Counsellor, Division for Asia and the Pacific; Ms. Sarah Nassar, Associate Program Officer, IP for Business Division; and Prof. Unnat P. Pandit, CGPDTM.

0003The programme commenced with a welcome address by Prof. (Dr.) Ruhi Paul, followed by an introduction to the Programme by Dr. Yogesh Pai, Associate Professor of Law and Programme Director. Mr. David Simmons provided insights into WIPO’s global initiatives in intellectual property capacity building and education, while Mr. Marco M. Alemán highlighted the role of intellectual property in fostering innovation.

0004The interaction concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session, providing students with an opportunity to interact with the delegation and gain valuable perspectives on the evolving global intellectual property landscape. The visit also included a meeting between Prof. (Dr.) G. S. Bajpai, Vice-Chancellor of NLU Delhi, and the distinguished delegates.
